On Saturday 11th May Marple Rifle Club again hosted the County for he BSA Cup competition, and 14 of our Shooters attended to compete for places in the 12 man-team.

I would like to thank all attendees for their time and efforts, and also Thanks to Marple for the use of their facilities again.
The Estimated results have been posted in the Results Section of the Website here, and as you will see our score is very similar to last years (well actually 6 points down on 2018 but now we await the official scores from the NSRA which are likely to be published sometime in October 2019 (as the Closing date for all Counties is not until 30th September this year)
I will post more information about the County Cup team nearer the time, as we have set a date of 8th September, at Appleton to shoot the County Cup Cards
2019 County Championship
The Cheshire & North Wales County Championship will be held on Sunday 16th June 2019 at Appleton Rifle Club, commencing at 10:00 and final detail starting at 16:00
The entry form can be found using the link above (or you can download it by Right Clicking on the icon, and selecting 'Download linked file') however entries will be accepted on the day as usual, but if possible I would encourage you to enter early, so we get an idea of numbers.
It is our intention to use this shoot to select our Representative for the Champion of Champions competition which is held at Bisley on the Sunday following Small-bore week (which this year will be on Sunday 18th August) and is shot on the electronic targets at the Lord Roberts Centre.
Our County Champion will have the honour of competing in the prestigious competition against representatives from may other Counties across the UK. The format will be as in previous years, whereby all competitors shoot an English Match, and then the top 8 go forward to an Olympic style final, where the 'medal positions' are determined..
The Cheshire & North Wales County Champion will be the winner of the County Championship above. So I would encourage you all to come along on the day and compete for the County Championship.
The competition has also been opened up with the hope of encouraging people from outside Cheshire & North Wales to come along and compete, although of course our Champion will be a Cheshire & North Wales resident

County Cup 2018
County Cup Sunday 2nd September 2018
Sunday 2nd September saw the Cheshire County Team at Appleton to shoot the 2018 County Cup match. Weather was a little blustery sadly, with the 100 yards proving especially challenging for some of us at least!
The team comprised:
Simon Green, Mike Arnstein, Mark Parry, Neil Almond, Roy Green, Martin Farrow, Gavin Scott-Brooker, Les Westhead, Joe Redwood, Nick Peters, Wayne Davies & Mike Lappin
The estimated results are shown in the table below, and I am sure that the scorers won't mind me saying that they have scored these harshly (by eye) so we may pick up the odd point here and there.

Total | 216 | 4,584 |
Congratulations to Simon for once again showing us all that the wind wasn't as bad as we all thought and also to Gavin for his first outing in the County-Team (I feel many more to come in the future)
Thanks to everyone for attending, and giving it their all in the match.
Special thanks should also go out to Appleton once again for the use of the range and the facilities; and especially to Neil Gibbons for supporting us and helping out (as usual) throughout the day.
Cheshire & North Wales at Bisley 2018
Bisley 2018 saw Cheshire and North Wales compete in 3 separate County competitions: The County Sextette, The County 50 Metre and the Astor Challenge Trophy.
As you may have gathered conditions at Bisley this year were somewhat challenging, with fairly strong wind from left to right, which had a habit of switching (without much notice) to blowing towards or away from the firing-point!
This was definitely the case for the Sextette, where Cheshire & North Wales were squadded at the far end of Century range (that area affectionately known by Full-Bore shooters as 'Magpie Alley'). That said the six shooters had a fairly steady shoot, and managed a very credible second place beaten by a mere 3 points by Essex.
In the County 50 Metre shoot conditions weren't much better, however we were squadded further down the range, and had to bear in mind that 4 of our team were also due to shoot in the Home Countries International (straight after the County 50 M shoot). Unfortunately we did not fair quite so well in this competition, finishing up in 16th place overall, some 76 points behind the Bedfordshire the overall winners.
Appleton also represented Cheshire & North Wales in the Astor Championship (a Club team chosen to represent the County), and a trophy that Appleton won last year (2017), so hopes were high for a repeat performance in 2018. Sadly however, we were pipped by Bedfordshire by just 4 points! So sadly no silverware this time round, but medals are awarded for the runners-up.
A big thanks goes out from the committee to all those who represented the County in these various competitions, along with a special thanks to Neil Gibbons for his sterling work in selecting the teams and doing all the admin and running around for the shooters.
The scores for the three competitions are shown below, and we would encourage more Cheshire & North Wales members to attend the Bisley Championships in 2019, it would be nice to bring home more silverware

Inter-Regional Competition 2018
On Friday 10th August 3 members of Cheshire and North Wales (Neil Almond, Mark Parry & Mike Arnstein) shot in the Inter-Regional competition at Bisley on the Cooper Range. The competition is an English Match shot on the Electronic targets in the Cooper Range.
Each team has one shooter in each of 3 squads, which levels the playing field a bit, in case the conditions change during the day, which they certainly did this year!
Squad 1 saw fairly typical conditions for the Cooper range, with the wind flicking from left to right and back again very quickly, and then blowing straight in your face, and then the sun came out, and in during the detail too.
Squad 2 saw atrocious conditions, with heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and very strong winds that were practically unreadable, light conditions were on the overcast side of dark, except when the lightning illuminated things!
Squad 3 saw much calmer conditions with a relatively easy wind to read, and fairly constant light conditions throughout
The scores achieved rather reflect these differing conditions, however, North-West Region finished in a very credible 4th place a mere 1.2 points behind Upper South-West region who finished in 3rd place. Interestingly our X count was considerably higher than Upper South-West! We were only 6.8 points of the overall winners (Eastern Region - Team 1); so overall an excellent effort from our team.
Not only did we finish 4th overall but Mike Arnstein was 3rd highest Individual score and collected a medal for his efforts
As you will have seen the North-West Regional squad has set up an inaugural meeting on Sunday 30th September at Wigan Rifle Club, so we would encourage anyone who is interested in getting involved in the Regional squad and shooting for North-West to contact either Mike Arnstein (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or Neil Almond (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) for more details.
Well done to the team, for a very credible effort overall.

Cheshire & North Wales came in second by only 3 points - humph

Success for cheshire Shooters at the Welsh Open
Two Cheshire shooters achieved some amazing successes at the Welsh Open Championship last weekend (23rd& 24thJune).
Crewe Rife club shooter Abby Warren qualified in 3rdplace in the 50M prone competition, putting up a very credible 622.3, and only being beaten by Ken Parr (European & World Cup Medallist) and Dave Phelps (current 50M prone Commonwealth Champion).
Not only was Abby’s 622.3 a new Personal Best for her, it was also a new British Women’s Junior record
Abby started shooting with her local Scout group about 5 years ago and quickly progressed through the Scout National squad, and qualified for the GB Talent squad in 2017, following an excellent shoot at the 2017 Welsh Championships. Abby is also the current Junior GB Champion, finishing in 3rdplace overall at the British Championships (only being beaten by two very experienced shooters – Lina Jones & Hannah Pugsley)
However, this was not the only success for the Warren family in Tondu. Abby’s brother Tom, clearly not wishing to be overshadowed by his younger sibling also qualified for the final of the 50M Prone, having already claimed the Junior Champion in the 3 x 40 competition putting him in 3rdplace overall.
These two exceptional juniors have only been shooting for a few years, but already have their sights set (no pun intended) on greater achievements and are both looking towards Commonwealth and Olympic competition in the future.
This level of achievement does not come easy and requires an inordinate amount of effort on behalf of the athletes themselves, and unrivalled support from their parents and family.
Their Mother (Gaynor) tells me that it costs a minimum of £5000 per year for each of them to fund their Sport of Target shooting. Currently Tom is working part time as well as studying for his A Levels to help buy the kit he needs. As the younger of the two Abby has always had Tom's hand me downs, but clearly now needs her own ‘made to measure’ suit.
Tom & Abby have created their own GoFundMe page here and would welcome any support you can give.
Cheshire & North Wales County Championship 2018 - Results
Sunday 24th June 2018 saw the first Cheshire County Open shoot held at Appleton Rifle club, and although entries were a little disappointing (with only 24 people attending) the day went off very well. The weather was hot and sunny, which certainly caused some of us a few challenges with the mirage!
Congratulations must go to Ryan Williams for winning the Open meeting, (having tied with Simon Green on the aggregate and winning on a count back on the 100 Yards); and also to Simon Green for retaining his title as Cheshire & North Wales County Championship and being selected as our representative for the Champion of Champions shoot at Bisley later in the year.
I would like to pass on my thanks not only to all the competitors who supported our shoot, but also to Neil Gibbons for running the Range, and Carl Taylor for his efforts behind the scenes and sorting out all the entries on the day.
It was decided not to shoot the County Cup Competition on the day, but Wayne (our County Captain) will be arranging a date for this over the next few weeks, and will no doubt be in touch with you shortly.
I will also post the results in the Results section of the Members page on the site.
Success for Altrincham Rifle & Pistol Club
Congratulations to Altrincham A Team (Simon Green, Mike Arnstein, Graham Nelson, Cliff Brett & Kosta Loukas) who won Division 4 of the NSRA National Prone 25 yard Indoor Winter League by 1 point!
Great video tribute to Lones Wigger
BSA Cup 2018 - Captains Report
County Captains Report
BSA Cup 2018
Firstly I would like to thank Marple Rifle Club for the use of their 25 Yard facilities again this year.
Secondly a big thanks to all the Cheshire and North Wales members who attended the trial, without whom we would not have been able to raise a Team for the BSA Cup.
It was especially good to see some new faces this year, and my personal congratulations (along with those of the Committee) go out to the 12 successful shooters who made the team, particularly to our first timers, it is very pleasing to new people coming along, and succeeding in our trial. As a specific example of this Gavin Scott-Brooker from Crewe Rifle Club attended the trial, the first time he had shot away from his home range, and although he wasn’t successful this time round he only missed selection by 2 points, so well done Gavin, look forward to seeing you at future County events.
As a team we managed a credible 2306 ex 2400, an average of 96.08per shooter per card. Top scorer this year was Simon Green scoring 198 ex 200, so congratulations to Simon for another excellent County performance.
I look forward to seeing you all at Appleton on 24th June for the County Championship (starting at 10:00), and Team Selection for the County Cup competition. Entry form for the County Shoot is available on our website (www.CNWRPA.co.uk) , and I would encourage you all to cajole, encourage or even bully as many of your members to attend as possible.
Many thanks to everyone and good shooting for 2018
Best Regards
Wayne Davis – CNWRPA County Captain
2018 BSA Cup Team - Updated
On Saturday 10th March representatives of Cheshire & North Wales attended Marple Rifle Club to shoot in the BSA Cup competition.
15 shooters attended and the team of 12 was selected from these 15 through an elimination or qualification shoot.
The estimated results of the team are shown below, as is a picture of the successful 12 participants. Our County Captain (Wayne Davis) will be writing a full report on the day, however, congratulations to those who made the team, and thanks to everyone who turned up on the day to support their County

Final Results for Winter 2017/18 .22 Prone League
The final results for the Winter 2017/18 .22 Prone league have now been posted in the Results Section of the Members Area, which can be accessed here.
Congratulations to all our winners, and I will be sorting out the Cheshire Gold medals for all Winning Teams, and issuing Runners-up certificates in the next few weeks.
I would just like to highlight some specific specific performances this season:
1. J Diamond from Grange with an improvement of 9.7 points on his entered average
2. Altrincham B who won all 10 of their rounds
3. S Green from Altrincham who only dropped 4 point on the entire competition
On behalf of the Cheshire & North Wales Committee I would like to thank all of you for taking part in what I believe has been a successful competition this winter, and hopefully we can build on this for the future. I would also like to pass on my personal thanks for all the nominated Club representatives who have borne with me during my first season as Stats Officer, hopefully we have got over most of the teething problems now, and things will run smoothly from her on.
Finally just a quick reminder about the entries for the Summer 2018 competition which close on 1st April, and don't forget the Outdoor (50 Yard) taster shoot on April 15th at Grange - please let me know if you are planning on attending - Club Secretaries have all the details
2018 County Championship
As previously published the County Championship will be held at Appleton Rifle Club on June 24th 2018, starting at 10:00.
We have decided to run this as an Open meeting this year, with the intention of attracting some shooters from outside the County. The course of fire will remain as a Double-Dewar course, and the results will be used as the basis for the 2018 County Cup Competition, and therefore Cheshire & North Wales members wishing to be considered for the County Team not only need to attend and compete on the 24th June, but should also check the entry form, and ensure they tick the Cheshire & North Wales resident box, and be ready to shoot on the first detail. The meeting is to be squadded, to simplify the admin, for the County Team selection.
The entry for is now available here, and please feel free to print off as many copies as you need, and distribute them around your club members, or with anyone you know who might fancy a competition on what is arguably one of the finest .22 rifle ranges in the UK.
Any issues or questions about the meeting or entries, please contact one of the committee, or email our Stats & Competitions Officer This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Inter-County 2019/20 - 25 Yard League - New Scores
Well after many week (if not months) of nothing, I have just received several scores from the NSRA for the Reserves, Veterans, and Ladies Inter-County leagues. This means that we now have confirmed results for the Main Team, The Reserves Team, and the Ladies up to and including Round 8, and up to and including Round 9 for the Veterans.
We do have one slight issue with both the Ladies and the Reserves however, it appears that the dates one the cards for Rounds 6 & 7 were out of order for one fo the team members, so it appears that round 7 had been shot before round 6, which is in contravention of the NSRA rules that state the cards must be shot in order! Personally I feel this is somewhat harsh as it has cost is 3 places in both competitions, but I suppose the Rules are the Rules!
I am afraid there is nothing I can doe with regards to challenging the decision, as the scans I took of the cards at the time clearly show the dates on both the round 6 and 7 cards; and they are out of order, so I am afraid we are somewhat stuck with the decision. I guess it does highlight one point for us all to make sure of in future, that we gat our cards witnessed in order!
I am sure that you (like me) were hoping for good news now as we slowly come out of Lockdown! Anyway the results have been posted here, and hopefully the final few results will be in shortly.
I am also hoping that the coming Winter Season (2020/21) won't suffer a 3 month interruption, and we can get back on track with our shooting!
So Pleas stay safe everyone, and hopefully we can get back to the shooting we all love as soon as possible
Neil.
2020 County Championship Open Meeting - Entries now invited
The Annual County Open Championship will be held on the 14th June 2020 at the beautiful Appleton Range near Warrington - arguably one of the best ranges in the Country.
This will be a double dewar unsquadded open, open to all comers, with presentation of Silver Trophies to the winners of each class (Cheshire & North Wales residents eligible for Silverware only - Wining competitors from outside the County will be presented with alternative prizes)
Classes X/A, B and C, Junior, and Veterans; club pairs
First time entrants to the County Shoot and Juniors eligible for 50% discount on entry fees.
Light Refreshments available at the range all day.
Now as if this isn't enough to get you downloading and filling in the entry forms from the link below, we are also for the very first time staging a separate 50m Championship Shoot on electronic targets with decimal scoring, which will be squadded with multiple squads during the day. This can be entered as well as the Double Dewar. Advance booking is essential to secure your place and avoid disappointment as numbers for the 50m Championship are strictly limited
